Ltd., Bill began his career in 1955 as an employee on the floor of the New York Stock Exchange. Subsequently, he worked for Spingarn, Heine & Co. before going on to Riter, Pyne Kendall and Hollister, where he rose through the ranks to become Chief Executive Officer of the firm. During the years he was there, Riter Pyne grew to become the tenth largest NYSE member firm. The firm was eventually sold in 1973; following the sale, Bill joined Ruane Cunniff & Co. in 1973 as Vice Chairman. In 1974, Bill then founded W.P. Stewart & Co., Ltd., a Bermuda-based registered investment adviser. W.P. Stewart & Co. became a publicly traded asset management company on the NYSE in 2000, with the firm’s assets under management totaling $12 billion, and invested entirely in one strategy, US mid-cap/large-cap concentrated growth. That firm was acquired by Alliance-Bernstein L.P. at year-end 2013. Bill is also an accomplished ocean sailor.
